Loading zones onto Autel drones

Advisory geo-fence

Autel is one of the few consumer/enterprise makers that lets you load a custom zone file into the aircraft. Its Import Geo-fence feature ingests a user-supplied no-fly file and surfaces it as advisory warnings (and slowdowns) in flight - soft, not a hard cage.

Import Geo-fence (EVO Max / Lite / Nano)

Supported via the Autel Enterprise app (EVO Max) and the Autel Sky app (EVO Lite / Nano).

  1. On the download page, choose your country and the ED-269 format, and download the .json.
  2. Copy the .json to the root directory of the remote controller (via USB or file manager).
  3. Open the map screen in the Autel app. On the Sky app, enter Intelligent Photo mode first.
  4. Tap the menu button → Import Geo-fence and follow the prompts to select the file.
  5. The zones load into the flight controller and show as warnings when you approach them.
Format caveat - validate on your device. Autel does not publish a schema, sample or limits for the Import Geo-fence file; it is strongly implied to be ED-269/ED-318, which is why we offer the ED-269 export. Test it on your actual aircraft before you rely on it, and tell us if it misbehaves.

KML missions (a route, not a keep-out)

Autel Explorer and Autel Enterprise import KML for Waypoint / Rectangular / Polygon missions. This is a flight path the drone will fly - not a no-fly zone. If you want to load our zones as a mission outline for reference, download KML; but for keep-out awareness use Import Geo-fence above.

Autel's mission import wants a .kml, not a .kmz - if you downloaded KMZ, unzip it to the .kml inside first. Set altitudes manually after import.

Myth check: "Autel has no geofencing / it can be turned off" is false - since 2021 Autel aircraft enforce mandatory factory no-fly zones by region. Import Geo-fence adds your advisory zones on top; it doesn't replace the factory ones.
