View zones offline in the field

View only

The most reliable way to check zones on any drone is to look at them on your phone before you take off - including offline, with no signal. Our KMZ export renders as filled, labelled areas in the common field-mapping apps.

Download zones as KMZ

Which app renders zones properly?

AppUse this fileFilled zones?Offline?
Avenza MapsKMZ / KMLYesYes (with an offline basemap)
Gaia GPSKMZ / GeoJSONYesYes (Premium maps)
Google Earth (mobile)KMZ / KMLYesNo - imagery needs signal
Google Earth (web)KMZ / KML / GeoJSONYesPartial
OsmAndKMZ / KMLNo - outlines onlyYes
For truly offline, filled zones in the field, Avenza Maps or Gaia GPS are the best picks - download an offline basemap for your area first, then import our KMZ.
OsmAnd collapses polygons to lines on import (it converts everything to GPX, which has no polygon type), so you'll see zone outlines but no fill. It works as a last resort; Avenza or Gaia are better.

Avenza Maps (iOS / Android)

  1. Download an offline basemap for your area in Avenza (Store or your own map) so it works with no signal.
  2. Download the KMZ from the download page to your phone.
  3. In Avenza: My Maps → the “+” → Import → from file, and choose the KMZ.
  4. Zones appear as filled areas you can tap for details.

Google Earth (mobile)

  1. Download the KMZ to your device.
  2. Open Google Earth → Projects → Open → Import KML file (or open the KMZ from your files and choose Google Earth).
  3. The zones render as filled areas over the globe. Note this needs a connection for the imagery.

Gaia GPS

  1. Download offline maps for your area (Gaia Premium) so it works without signal.
  2. Import our KMZ or GeoJSON: Saved → Import, and select the file.
  3. Zones show as filled "Areas". Note Gaia caps imports at 1,000 features per file - download a focused area if needed.
